Mapping and GIS

Our GIS Technician is responsible to plan, implement and maintain an enterprise wide Geographical Information System (GIS). The GIS is used by City departments that have a need for spatial information and to improve our decision making process through the use of GIS.

The City uses ESRI products (Arcview and ArcExplorer) as the software base for the GIS. The database component of the GIS is stored in Microsoft’s Sql Server 7.0.

In addition to our mapping products, AutoCAD 2000i, a product of Autodesk, is utilized for all computer generated drafting services.

Some day to day activities of this section include:

Researching and developing proposal requests for GIS applications.
Promote the use of GIS data and resources and provide support to the users.
Provide conversion, distribution and maintenance of GIS data.
Provide maps, tables and applications using GIS data to support operational functions.
Provide computer generated graphic/drafting services to all City departments.
