We will be having a scheduled electrical outage for some customers during the early morning of September 3, 2016 from 1:00 am to approx. 6:00 am.  The streets affected will be, McEwen Rd from Ottawa to Water continuing east to Reads Corner, at Reads Corner it includes between Sunnybrook Farms to ADL.  This outage is necessary to do upgrades to our electrical utility system, in the event of inclement weather this outage will be postponed. … read more

There will be a power interruption from 9:00 am until 12:00 today in the Beaver, Cedar and Oak Street areas, all customers in the areas have been notified.

Sorry for the inconvenience, the outage is to allow us to transfer equipment to the new poles.

We would like to advise you of a planned power outage this evening, January 11, 2016 at 11:00 pm through to approximately 5:00 am, January 12, 2016.  This outage is necessary due to damages sustained to an electric pole.

Electrical Outage on Maple Grove Road

The power will be out for an hour on Maple Grove Road due to a tree on the lines.  Power will be restored around 12:00 pm.

Electricity Outage at Read Corner

The power is out at Reads Corner, north and south from the gas station, in order to fix the situation we will be shutting the power down from Reads Corner to Waugh's on Water St and the sub-divisions in between for at least one half hour to do repairs.  All power should be back up and running by 9:00 am.

If you are interested in being notified in advance of any power outages being pre-planned by Summerside Electric please contact dcameron@city.summerside.pe.ca to be placed on our notification list.

Please be advised that the previously scheduled power outage for July 7 between the hours of 2:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. has been cancelled.

Due to the required maintenance of the breaker feeding the City of Summerside (Summerside Electric Customers only), there will be a power outage on March 3, 2013 at 3:00 a.m. to 3:45 a.m. Summerside Electric is sorry for any inconvenience to its customers but emergency repairs are required by MECL on the power feeding the City of Summerside. At approximately 3:00 p.m., August 14th, 2012 Maritime Electric experienced a ground fault on one of its transmission lines that feeds to Prince Edward Island from a Raccoon and Tree.  This limited the power capability for the Island to 100 MW's of electricity. Power Outage on Sunday, August 12, 2012 was caused by malfunctioning equipment, from the heavy rain squall that passed through, which was isolated and repaired by Summerside staff.  The electrical protection systems prevented major damage from occurring causing larger damage and lengthy outages.  The outage occurred between 2:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. and then again from 3:30 until 4:00 p.m. All systems are now repaired and in good working… read more

Summerside Electric is currently running engines to support Island load today as the undersea cable repairs continue and the On-Island Wind Farms have very little wind to produce energy!!!!

Summerside Electric would ask all Islanders and Consumers of Electricity to be mindful of their electricity use!!!!

If we all take care to reduce our electricity needs on the Island than it will save us all monies in the repair of the undersea cable!!!!

Maritime Electric Company Limited has issued a new press release on the status of investigations and repair efforts on the undersea electrical cables that tie Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick.  See it HERE!

Summerside Electric customers are not expected to see any disruption in service from these repairs.

South Drive Electrical Upgrade
