At approximately 3:00 p.m., August 14th, 2012 Maritime Electric experienced a ground fault on one of its transmission lines that feeds to Prince Edward Island from a Raccoon and Tree.  This limited the power capability for the Island to 100 MW's of electricity. Power Outage on Sunday, August 12, 2012 was caused by malfunctioning equipment, from the heavy rain squall that passed through, which was isolated and repaired by Summerside staff.  The electrical protection systems prevented major damage from occurring causing larger damage and lengthy outages.  The outage occurred between 2:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. and then again from 3:30 until 4:00 p.m. All systems are now repaired and in good working… read more
